JASON BONHAM Gives Kudos To KEITH MOON And NEIL PEART

November 18, 2010

During a November 17 interview with Steve Newton of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada's Straight.com, drum great Jason Bonham chatted about his LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE — a multimedia event which sees him performing select ZEPPELIN tunes with a live band and talking about his relationship with his legendary father John Bonham — and about some of the world's other drumming icons. When Newton told Jason he thought THE WHO's Keith Moon was the greatest rock drummer who ever lived, Bonham replied, "Yeah, Keith was an innovative guy. I think he was a little bit more erratic than dad; he was a little bit off the cuff, you know. Sometimes replicating Keith on THE WHO track — he hit cymbals where it just naturally wouldn't be. He was very bizarre in that area, but phenomenal. I'm a huge Keith Moon and THE WHO fan, and when I do drum seminars and clinics I play WHO songs, and ZEPPELIN, 'cause those are the things that turned me on: GENESIS, WHO, and ZEPPELIN. And even a little bit of RUSH, actually," he added. "I went through the stage, after dad died, where somebody bought me '2112', and I was suddenly listening to this guy playing drums and going, 'Wow!'. And when we were in Canada last time, at the end of 'Whole Lotta Love', I tipped my hat to Neil Peart, and we went into 'Tom Sawyer' for about a minute. So it was very cool."
